The first experiences with computers, software and programming languages I made as a teenager with a Commodore 128, which was a relatively up-to-date machine at that time. After school, I was so much fascinated by working with a computer, that I decided to study computer science at the university of Oldenburg. At the beginning of my studies in 1993, I was for the first time confronted with important programming languages and serious programming tasks and problems. During that time, I was for almost six years occupied as a (part-time) software engineer at the OFFIS computer science institute in Oldenburg. This work helped me a lot to make important and necessary work experiences already before the end of my studies.
My stay abroad in Canada and my traineeship as a software engineer in Calgary (2000/2001) have influenced me a lot as a person and as a computer scientist. After my return to Germany, I finished my studies and accepted a job offer from my old employer (OFFIS) in March 2002. Just like during my previous occupation at OFFIS, I have since that time been responsible for the development of software in the health care domain.

My qualifications |
|
|
The qualifications that I have acquired so far are a result from the work that I did during my studies and during my previous occupations. The most important technical capabilities are the following:
- Object-oriented software development with C++, Java, C# and ASP.NET
For more than 13 years now I have been engaged in the development of software. The majority of the projects which were accomplished in these years are predominantly located in the health care domain. With regard to programming languages, I have substantial, longtime experiences with C++ and some intense experiences with newer programming languages like Java or C#. In the last year, I also dealt with the development of web-based applications on the basis of ASP.NET.
- UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems
During my work I was confronted with different operating systems. At first, software development on UNIX platforms was very popular, later, at the end of the 1990s, more and more projects were carried out using Windows operating systems. In the last years, platform-independent software development processes under Windows and Linux have gained more and more in importance.
- Relational database management systems and SQL
In many projects that I worked on, data was archived and managed with the necessary help of relational database management systems. The experiences that I made in the last years regarding the storage of data and relational database management systems predominantly deal with Oracle databases.
- DICOM standard
During my full-time occupation at the OFFIS computer science institute I have been engaged in many projects which are based on the DICOM standard for medical image processing and communication. Aside from developing software in this domain, my task was also to organize and give public DICOM training courses.
- Design and implementation of websites
Aside from the development of software, I have also dealt with the design and implementation of websites. In this domain, I made basic experiences with HTML, CSS and PHP.
- Teaching activities
As a result of the many DICOM courses that I gave in the last years, I gained many experiences in the scope of teaching activities. My occupation as a volleyball coach has also contributed to these experiences.
Aside from these techical qualifications, I have also acquired some other important capabilities in the last years:
- Capacity for teamwork
The ability of developing software in a team of several computer scientists has been one of the most important aspects in all the projects I participated in. The design of concepts and the implementation of these concepts in a group of people as well as the participation of end-users in the software development process has always been a cornerstone in any accomplished project.
- Ability to learn new concepts and technologies
Learning and understanding new concepts and technologies has always been a challenge for me. In my professional career as well as in my private life I meet such challenges with a lot of enthusiasm.
- Knowledge of the English language
The English language has (aside from volleyball) been one of my hobbies ever since my school days. My stay abroad in Canada (2000/2001) and studying English as a minor subject at university has considerably contributed to my vocabulary. Since the beginning of my studies I enthusiastically read books in their original English versions.
