The internet is an excellent medium for providing information to a group of interested people. For this reason, the design of a globally accessible website is inevitable for many companies, organizations and working groups as well as for private people. With the necessary help of a website, important contacts can be established and maintained over the course of many years; without a website, such contacts would probably not even have been made or they would have been broken off after a short amount of time. |

With regard to the development of websites, I have so far participated in three larger projects. Aside from designing and implementing my own private homepage (which you are currently visiting) and a website that provides information about my parents' holiday apartments, I was particularly engaged in the design and the realization of the DICOM website of the OFFIS computer science institute in Oldenburg. This website is accessible through http://dicom.offis.de/. Concerning the realization of this website, many different aspects were relevant. Aside from a detailed description of all DICOM activities at the OFFIS institute, also a clear layout of the webpages, a bilingual realization of the entire homepage in German and English and the availability of OFFIS' open source DICOM software through the implemented pages was of great importance. After an adequate planning and designing phase, the website was finally implemented with the necessary help of HTML, CSS and PHP, and it has since that time been available at all times for numerous visitors from all parts of the world. As a webserver, Apache 2.0.48 on a Debian GNU/Linux operating system is used, PHP is utilized in Version 4. |
